"TWEET TWEET , CHIRP CHIRP , TWEET TWEET!" sang Whimsy Wood's dawn chorus, bright and early one May morning.

"Why oh why, do they have to do that? It's still night time surely?!" groaned Fearne Fairy as she shoved her head under the petal pillow and tried to go back to sleep in her hazel leaf hammock.

"CHIRP CHIRP, TWEET TWEET, CHIRP CHIRP!" the dawn chorus happily continued.

"This is hopeless! How can I possibly sleep through all that twittering?!" grumbled Fearne as she rubbed her bleary eyes, stretched her fairy wings and swung herself out of her hammock.

Outside Fearne's tree stump house, Winona Wren, Ruby Robin and Norah Nightingale were indeed singing their little hearts out, along with the rest of the dawn chorus crew. It had become a tradition in Whimsy Wood that every morning during the marvellous month of May, the woodland folk were treated to this splendid singing performance!

FLITTER-FLUTTER, FLUTTER-FLITTER went Fearne Fairy's tiny wings under her umbrella, as she flew over the clumps of beautiful bluebells and vibrant violets that shimmered in the spring rain.'

Reviews:Brittany Perez blogger from 'Oh My Bookness'. on Amazon.com wrote:

This Whimsy tale is written in a first and third person narrative. The author quirky and Whimsy writing style gives the reader the feeling the author is" write" there, addressing the reader about Fearne but telling you the story about this little Fairy who has her quirks, and a spot of trouble landing to. As Fairy, Fearne feels she should be able to do it, it should come a bit naturally and is embarrassed to ask for help for the reasons she may be made fun of for it.

What's unique and fun about this story is you see a community of characters from Whimsy Wood pull together to help Fearne but at the same time they learn something from each other. The story does not come off as bing-bang-boom and Voila, lesson taught-lesson learned story, the approach is much more subtle. When you meet Fearne's friend.. it will be a huge highlight in the story! It makes you wonder doesn't it? Trust me it's a character to look out for.

The focus is on the story, the narrative that gets the reader to use their imagination about Fearne as well other characters that show up that you will get to meet if you read the book. It's hard not to enjoy the way the author writes, there are times you can't help but smile even let out a little chuckle.

This series takes a unique approach with using the months of the calendar for its theme, think of what accompanies that month and you will find those little details within every so casually and well blended. It makes you wonder what the rest of the sequence will look and feel like. It's a read I would recommend, it's catchy and fun.

Loving Life With Little Ones on www.lovinglifewithlittleones.com wrote:

"I love the way the book is written with playful alliteration, onomatopoeia and as Little 1 called it 'bouncy' language. The style of writing by the talented Sarah Hill literally makes the words jump off the page and the story come to life, the first time we read the story we delayed bedtime by 10 minutes as the girls 'just had to' hear the end of the story.
Just like other books in the series Fearne Fairy and the Chocolate Caterpillar contains a few subtle morals and messages hidden within the tale, such as tidying up, being friendly and helping friends, which I liked.
The illustrations throughout the book are colourful and lovely, each book is set in a different month (This book is set in April) so the flora and fauna changes in the illustrations in each book as the seasons do too. Both girls loved the pictures, studying what was going on in them, working out which bit of the story they were relating to and and they also provided a talking point during the story as we spotted the cute little details."

Down on the woodland floor there were pretty yellow primroses and white wood anemones, which sparkled and shone like little iced gems in the spring sunshine.

Now somewhere in the middle of Whimsy Wood, was a large moss-covered tree stump. If you were to crouch down next to it and listen very, very carefully, you might just about hear a rather shrill voice singing a funny little tune. ....'

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the baskets rise up a little and then move slowly along the log all by themselves...

"That's strange," muttered Posie to herself. I've heard of flying broomsticks, but floating baskets is just silly! So brushing down her purple tunic and drawing herself up as tall as possible, she marched over to the naughty baskets with her hands on her hips.

"Now look here!" she said firmly, whilst waggling a finger at them. "I've carried you to this lovely spot by the blackberry bushes, so the least you could do is sit still!" And with that, she lifted the baskets up swiftly by their handles.

Well, you'll never guess what she saw underneath? A team of teeny tiny ants!

Posie Pixie and the Lost Matchbox by Sarah Hill is an enchanting, Beatrix Potter-esque flight of fancy for children, wherein Posie the Pixie goes on a quest with her friend Wibble the woodlouse to trade in her bed of lime leaves for something more comfortable. Along the way, she learns about the importance and purpose of recycling, the value of real friendship, and the rewards of good, old-fashioned hard work. Posie Pixie and the Lost Matchbox is cleverly written in easy-to-understand words that young children will easily recognize and be able to read independently. In addition, the text is accompanied by delightful color plates from illustrator Sarah Mauchline, whose imaginative and whimsical style is a perfect match for Hill’s beguiling narrative.

Posie Pixie’s woodland world is full of wonder, uplifted by positive values, free from discrimination and hatred, powered by teamwork, and ripe with possibilities – in short, a perfect model for young children to enjoy and emulate. The charming text and appealing illustrations provide many details to invite discussion and inspired playtime for children and adults alike.

Posie and her friends are timeless characters in the fashion of Potter, Milne, and White. With proper exposure, over time Sarah Hill’s Whimsy Wood series (in which Posie Pixie and the Lost Matchbox is the second volume) could well find its place in the lexicon of classic children’s Literature. Parents: turn off the TV, unplug the computer, power down the X-box and settle in with your child for a shared reading of Sarah Hill’s Posie Pixie and the Lost Matchbox. It may well be the springboard for a lifetime of imaginative problem-solving, independent thinking, and empowerment.

' "Oh pips and petals! Where am I going to live?" muttered Posie Pixie in a fluster, as she hurried through Whimsy Wood one warm August afternoon.

Her little bluebell hat jingled and tinkled as she bobbed up and down and scurried like a squirrel amongst the pink and purple foxgloves. "Summer's coming to an end and I must find a new home for the autumn!" she said, looking at the woodland flowers that had started to lose their petals.

Posie was feeling a little hot and bothered now with all her hurrying and scurrying, so she stopped and leant against a large tree stump to catch her breath and cool down a bit.

Posie Pixie and the Copper Kettle (Whimsy Wood) by Sarah Hill is a delightful adventure story where young readers find themselves being taken on an adventure along with Posie Pixie in Whimsy Wood. Posie the Pixie is looking for a new house for autumn as summer was slowly ending. As she leans on a tree stump to rest, she reminisces about the summer days which she had spent with Bristle Bumblebee and Dewberry Dragonfly. A caravan passes by and suddenly the horse lifts one of his hooves and the pots and pans fall clanging from the caravan. Posie the Pixie helps the travelers and in return gets a quirky copper kettle. In this story filled with whimsy, magic and enchantment, readers see Posie the Pixie making a lot of new friends while trying to find a cozy autumn home for herself.

The story is beautifully expressed; the pictures are exquisite and capture the enchantment and magic of the tale. The story also teaches kids to interact and converse with others. It is a good book to use for read aloud sessions in classrooms and libraries. The author also conveys a good message of friendship and helping others. All the characters in the story are lovable and charming. They give excellent pace and movement to the events with their adorable behavior. The illustrations complement the whimsical feel of the story beautifully. The author does a great job of conveying a good message with her expert storytelling.
